You have a lot of goals. But if there's one thing at the top of your list, I bet it's to be the best possible version of yourself. This, of course, is miles from easy, but it's really not that complicated.
Marcus Aurelius had the perfect formula for being a person of "remarkable character," as he called it:
"… to live your last day, every day, without frenzy or sloth or pretense."
I get chills reading that line—live your last day, every day.
Without Frenzy
Choosing not to let the busyness, the pressure, the onslaught of messages vying for your attention rattle you into a state of chaos. Refusing to live in reaction mode. Not letting everyone else's emergencies become yours. You don't have to put out every fire!
Without Sloth
Knowing the difference between rest and laziness. Not shutting down emotionally to protect yourself, not running from life's challenges.
Without Pretense
Throwing away all your masks. Striving to be more of who you are and less of what society expects you to be. Doing nothing for show—or, in this age, likes, shares, and follows.
It's that simple. And yet it could take an entire life to master. But, for now, start here—
Every morning, ask yourself some version of this question: "If today were my last day, how would I choose to live it?"
