Yesterday evening, I took our newborn son Hudson out for a drive to soothe him so he could rest (and to preserve the sanity at home).
I decided to drive down āfamiliarā side streets Iāve passed thousands of times but never explored. I quickly found they werenāt familiar at all. I encountered neighborhoods I didnāt even know existed, houses that ranged from quaint to impressive, and on more than one block, slightly creepy.
It was a fascinating exercise.
I thought about all the people Iām āfamiliarā with, the ones I āknowā from passing conversations or the occasional smile and nod. What would I discover, I wondered, if I actually turned down their street and spent some time exploring?
Thereās a simple invitation here for all of us, on occasion, to slow down, take some turns, and be curious. To unfamiliarize ourselves on purpose.
