“Nobody wears a necklace for the sake of the thread, but without a thread, there can be no necklace!” - Sadhguru
My daughter Isabel likes to make bracelets. She uses different beads and charms, thoughtfully customizing each bracelet for the person who will wear it.
More than once, she’s emerged from her room in tears, clutching the remains of a bracelet she just spent an hour crafting before the thread snapped and flung beads all over the floor.
No one thinks about the thread until they need it, until it fails and ruins everything they’ve worked to build.
When we look at impressive people, we notice their achievements. We marvel at the design of their lives and wish we had something similar. We see the promotion, the healthy family, the successful business, the fit body.
What we don’t see is what binds it all together.
Discipline, integrity, consistency, and gratitude are the hidden threads that make success possible. But most people just want to pick out their beads. They want fashion without foundation and accomplishment without solid commitment.
One good stretch will pull that all apart.
Isabel has learned the hard way the importance of a sturdy thread for her creations. In the same way, life teaches us—through trials, struggles, and even victories—that our achievements are only as secure as the character that holds them together.
