Imagine that every time it rained, water made its way through your roof, into your ceiling, and down the walls of your home.
What would be a wiser strategy:
To lock yourself inside your house all day, obsessively checking weather apps and praying it doesn’t rain (again!), or to locate the source of the leak, address it, and then patch up the ceiling?
The answer is obvious.
Similarly, when people mistreat us or act in ways that generally cause us frustration, stress, or outright anger, we can lock ourselves away mentally, obsessively watching for signs of betrayal, or we can find the source of our triggers and work to heal them.
Rain will always come, and people will always act in ways we dislike. Instead of fighting this reality, our task is to mindfully address the elements within our control and then get out and enjoy our lives.
