The best teacher in the world is useless to a student who’s checked out. But even the worst teacher can facilitate amazing results for a student hungry to learn.
One of my mentors is passionate about golf. He invests in a top-tier trainer. But, hearing him talk about his love of the game, it’s clear to me that if his trainer—if all golf trainers—disappeared tomorrow, his progress wouldn’t stop. He’d devour more books, YouTube videos, and magazines. He’d chase down tips from strangers on the course if he had to. His improvement isn’t dependent on perfect conditions.
He has what one of my high school teachers called stick-to-itiveness—an unshakable commitment to the process and an undying desire to grow. (You can’t teach that.)
I’m not sure what your goals are (or if you have any). I don’t know if you have a great support system or access to high-level resources. But I do know you have an internet connection and at least one device linked to a global database of nearly infinite information.
You can tap a wealth of internal resources: curiosity, creativity, discipline, and adaptability, to name a few.
The question is, are you hungry to learn? Are you willing to seek out teachers and bring a notebook to class?
Do you have stick-to-itiveness?
