“Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
- Maya Angelou
Is it a healthy work ethic, or is it ego?
Is it a need to show up for other people no matter what, or is it fear of what they might think/do if you decide to show up for yourself?
My friend, the cares and responsibilities of life aren’t going anywhere. They’ll always be around.
You, however…
I’d love to know how you see it. Join me in the comments!
Yes! Although I don’t make them happen very often, I love these days! I grab a cooler, a book and a blanket and drive. Where I end up, I end up. My favorite destination is someplace to put my toes in the sand, walk the waters edge and watch the sunset. So incredibly restorative.
