My kids love the latest film adaptation of the musical Annie. (I kind of love it, too.)
The film features one of the biggest earworms of all time: “Tommorow.” You can’t not get that song stuck in your head. It’s catchy. It’s hopeful. It’s virtually impossible not to sing.
I think of that iconic line, “Tomorrow, tomorrow. I love ya tomorrow. You’re always a day away.”
It speaks of longing and perseverance, the promise that no matter how dreary today may seem, the sun will break through the clouds again soon. Tomorrow’s another day. It’s this idea that gives us hope.
Unfortunately, it’s also this idea that often holds us back.
If we aren’t careful, this message can become a mindset. It can harden into an excuse we use to avoid the day at hand.
The next time you find yourself thinking, “Tomorrow…”
As in, “I’ll start tomorrow—for real this time.” Or “Tomorrow, I’ll give them a call.” Or “I’ll make things right… Tomorrow.”
Remind yourself that tomorrow doesn’t exist. It’s not a thing.
Do you know how many unfulfilled tomorrows are buried in the ground right now? Cemeteries full of them.
Live today like it’s your last day. Because…
