As much as I enjoy his early music catalog and brilliant work as a producer, I never thought I’d feature the insight of Kanye West in this publication, especially in light of 99.9% of his statements in recent years.
And yet, here we are.
I came across something he said recently that really resonated:
“You know, if every time someone asks you a question you try to say the right answer, your entire life is a test. And when did you have the most anxiety? In grammar school and high school on test day. So, your entire life becomes this test.”
Wow.
Do you ever feel the crushing weight of trying to get it right? To have the right answer as a parent, partner, friend, boss, employee, etc.? We’re terrified to check the wrong boxes or strike out on the essay questions. We feel we’re constantly being graded by everyone around us—and not on a curve.
But who handed them the red marker in the first place? Who gave them access to the answer key?
No doubt, we all still have a ton left to learn. But in this respect, I’d much rather be a dropout. Wouldn’t you?
I’d love to know how you see it. Join me in the comments!
