The other day, while we were out and about, I took my kids to a fast food restaurant (something I rarely do). I was already less than thrilled with the decision when another customer approached me as I ordered and muttered,
âMake sure you stay on them. We didnât have a great experience. And it took forever.â
Perfect, I thought as I slid my credit card into the reader. This should be fun.
Five minutes later, the food arrived at our table. The order was delivered without flaw, including our instructions to âhold the onionsâ on one order and âno mustardâ on another. Iâm not saying it was a Michelin star-level dining experienceânot the expectation, anywayâbut it didnât match the warning I received.
I was reminded of two things:
Your experience is uniquely yours. Itâs always filtered through your expectations, emotional state, mental filters, and past experiences.
Advice can be constructive. But donât let someone elseâs judgment cloud yours. Keep an open mind, and come to your own conclusions.
Maybe a little too deep for a burger and fries, but itâs food for thought nevertheless.
